Meet Teddy
Teddy is a lovely 4 year old male greyhound.
He loves food, walks, play and human company. He is very clean and adores female greyhounds. But Teddy has been upset by smaller children during his life in racing kennels.
However, he is an extremely loving boy, he just barks at smaller kids now so we think it is just best for him to not have to have the bother of coping with that.
If you’d like to sponsor Teddy then please call 07811 296029 or email dawn@greyhoundrescue.org.uk
Apollo - Sady passed away to cancer RIP our gorgeous big lad xxx
Apollo has passed away xxx
Apollo is a gorgeous White & Blue Brindle. He is 8 years old and kennelled with Pandora! They do make a stunning couple!
They are loved up and whilst he is a large boy, Pandora is 'the boss'!
As with Pandora, Apollo is an ex coursing greyhound from Ireland and is extremely strong and is on the sponsorship scheme as we have not found the right person/people yet to take on this pair, as they must be rehomed in a pair.
The simple reason being is that they are so strong and because of their hunting background in Ireland, they will need someone who is very, very experienced in the breed and strong enough to keep a good hold of these two.
Apollo as like Pandora, does like his own breed and larger dogs but no smaller dogs or cats etc again due to his background.
He loves people and children but we must again stress we would only consider 'older, children due to the strength of these dogs.
They are a special pair but will remain on sponsorship until the right home comes.
Meet Opal has passed away
Opal is a 22 year old ex racer who has been at the rescue nearly all her adult life!
Opal is like a 3 year old puppy still to say she is such a great age!! However, she is becoming an older lady even if she doesn't realise it herself.
Opal has always been a fun loving girl and being a really small dog, has the ability to 'get where water can't'. To be fair to this beautiful lady, she is a dream to be around and is nothing but joy and love.
To imagine life without Opal - well, we just couldn't but then we consider her age? She is not yet the oldest greyhound Karen has had though. That was Wolfie who was 22. Opal is heading for a possible record!
She is kennel with her daughter Gem - who is also a very fun loving girl. They get in bed together and Opal loves to clean Gem! Afterall, Gem is her baby and only 9 years old!!!
If any dog in the kennels were to give us the 'runaround' and not want to come in and just want to play, come rain or shine, it will be Opal! She is a real little monkey.
If you would like to sponsor Opal then please email dawn@greyhoundrescue.org.uk or you can buy her certificate on our online shop very shortly.
Meet Jack
Jack is a beautiful black male greyhound who is just adorable.
He is not yet ready to make someone a loving pet and melt their hearts as we know this breed does in such a wonderful way, as he does have a few issues he need sorting first.
Jack is a worrier and insecure and is up and down with his weight. This is something we are working on with him especially with him being such a big tall lad.
He will get there and he is very soft. He just needs to be taught love and security and a lot of tlc as well as his special diet at the moment, which is why he is on sponsorship for the time being.
Jack is a big lad and when he is ready for re-homing, he will suit a couple or family with older children due to his size.
He is a real stunner!
If you would like to sponsor Jack then please contact the rescue on 07811 296029 or email dawn@greyhoundrescue.org.uk
Jack is waiting!
Lobo Has Sadly Passed Away
Lobo is an 8 year old male white & Black greyhound who has been at the rescue all is life and is kennelled with his sister Blanca.
He and Blanca are on sponsorship as they have never been able to find homes due to their 'puppy like' ways.
They were born here when a bitch was brought in pregnant and he and some of his siblings were not the easiest and take after their mother who was also a cheeky little monkey!
Whilst Lobo and Blanca are a really playful pair and do love people they do not like to be away from the kennels. They are easily distressed if they even go for a walk with someone different!
As is their litter sister 'Solo'!!! It was not an easy decision to keep the in rescue but for them it was kindest one as they just will not cope with any other life. They are very well loved and treated as part of the family as are all the dogs here.
So they are all on the sponsorship scheme unless an angel comes along with a lot of time, patience and is at home 24/7!!! These are not typical of the greyhound breed at all!!!
If you want to sponsor Lobo then he will be so happy! Please do so online or call 07811 296029
Max
Max is an 8 year old lurcher (corder collie cross greyhound) who has been with me since he was 18mth.
Max has been our fundraising dog and raised lots of money for his pals over the years and still goes out on occasions to 'do his bit' though he is not as young as he used to be and gets a little tired these days!!! Or lazy!!
His bestest friend is JoJo the parrot who does cry if Max goes out so this has also had an impact on Max's fundraising days!! Can you believe the parrot cries! Then when Max comes back JoJo sings, shouts him and jumps about throwing water everywhere!!
Max is a real soft boy and does a proper smile. We can honestly say we have never seen this dog in a bad mood.
The only thing we will say is that he is very noisy....screams for his dinner and if Karen is cooking! Strangely he doesn't bother when Dawn is cooking!!!
He is on the sponsorship scheme as he is now 'semi retired' from his fundraising days.
Willow
Willow is a 4 year old black female greyhound who is in with Max.
She is a lovely girl though a bit of a nutter at times which is why she is remaining at the rescue!!!
Willow needs extra special care as she is quite a nervous girl and needs to know that she's not 'going anywhere' constantly! She worries if she is in the garden and we go to the car & we have a lead in our hand, just in case she is going....she fears losing people!
This results in her behaviour change, where she gets very 'skittish' and needs comfort & reassurance.
She is happy here and we have taken her into the house as we know she is young and we were hoping she would one day be happy to be rehomed but it is looking like she is attached!!
We love her anyway, whatever her ways are....she is loving, funny and always hungry....a bit like Max, her companion! A good pair!!!
Ilona
Ilona is a 1 year old greyhound who came to us at 3 months, rescued by Madalina Crista & Anca who are Romanian rescuers who went out of there way to get these greyhounds to safety.
They were saved from the Romanian Gypsy Circus where they are made to do all sorts of things including like Drac & Helsin, dance and perform. But they are in no way treated with any kind of love and respect in return nor are they well looked after....Drac & Helsin had been caged up and had never even run before they came to us and still try to dance for us, even using chairs. How sad.
Ilona was lucky enough (even though she does not realise), to be brought over to safety before she was old enough to go through what they did...and poor Edgar who ended up being hanged but somehow escaped but has been left blinded and brain damaged by the physical trauma of it not to mention the psycological trama.
Ilona's 2 litter sisters were brought to us in March of this year at 10 months, they have suffered a little more abuse but have been lucky enough to have not been traumatised so far that they could not find the love of a new family and settle into a new home...they are doing well.
Bobby (Bobita) also came a month a after Ilona also at 3 months and he was found to be a lovely boy who luckily has not suffered trauma to remember either.
Ilona is to be trained as our 'Fundraising' greyhound since we lost 'Beau' to bone cancer earlier this year....
Ilona is a beautiful stunning girl and knows her own mind! She has adopted 'Patch as her mother and Patch thinks she is!! They do have a connection.
She is still very much a 'playful pup' but also very intelligent and picks things up quickly. She gives a paw, sits, and fetches her toys and drops them to play! - She does run 100mph straight into your legs though if you are not watching....and she aims!!! She has an agenda!
Gem - sadly recently passed away suddenly xx
Gem has sadly passed away.
Gem is an 11 year old black female greyhound who has a few health issues now and needs constant care going forward.
She also has a full metal foot where she had a freak accident and broke every bone and toe in her back left foot!
That aside she is one of the most fun loving greyhounds you could wish to meet! Often taking you for a ride around her kennel on her head if she gets chance...because she just adores people and interaction.
That said we did attempt to take her in the house at one point....great for us as we found out she love everyone and everything, including the other house dogs, the parrot and even the cats!! The bengal at the time became her best pal!!! but, she was craving something and each time we let her out or took her out she dragged us towards the kennels! All Gem wanted was to go back to her pals there? She became upset so we took her back in to trial it....and she picked up like her world had be rebuilt! She was so happy! So that is where she is! Our perfect house dog - wants to be a kennel dog!!!
Gem has too many health issues to be rehomed, but there is also the issue of her needing a 'kennel surroundings' so she is a forever kennel girl. x
Pandora has sadly passed away
Pandora is a beautiful 22 year old ex coursing greyhound from Ireland.
She is kennelled with Apollo and they are often found tucked up in bed together....in the same bed!
She is a blue brindle, a very beautiful girl though a very strong girl. If she was ever to be rehomed, it would have to be with Apollo and to someone extremely experienced in the breed and very sensible as these dogs have been hunters and are very alert.
She does like her own breed and larger dogs only due to her background.
She is wonderful with people and children and loved to play...We also have to give her a kiss before her food or she will not eat it!! She does appear a big softy but these 2 really do need to be respected simply because the are not your typical ex racing dogs.
This is why they are on sponsorship until the 'right' owner comes forward.
Drac and Helsin
Our beautiful 11 month old Saluki X Greyhound brothers have arrived from a Romanian circus
The most perfect set of eight legs I have ever had the pleasure to rescue. Our beautiful 11 month old Saluki X Greyhound brothers have arrived from a Romanian circus, having the ordeal of not just a terrible start to their lives but also a 5 day journey from Romania to us.
These boys need a very special home and a very loving family.
As they are from Romania we have called the Drac & Helsin lol.
Helsin, the darker of the two, arrived as a very nervous young man, Drac is very much the protector of the two and looks after his brother. They simply adore each other.
But, I must say after a good meal and cuddles, it took them little more than an hour to show us what wonderful characters they really are.
After such a sad start to their lives. we are not prepared to re-home them seperately. They must go as a pair as they deserve to stay together. They are perfect partners, playful and loving, waiting for that special home.
For more information on these lovely boys, please contact us direct by phone.
They are fully vaccinated, castrated and passported and ready to give such pleasure and love to the right home.
I can say these dogs are out of this world, so very, very special, handsome and unique characters.
If you think you can give these 2 boys what they need then please contact the rescue on 01205 290145
A big thank you to Wendy Etheridge for getting these dogs to safety. We will look after them and get them the caring home they deserve.
On sponsorship only for now as need some training – they are still pups in their heads and need a bit of work due to their size! X
Brindy -Passed away 12.8.19
Brindy is a lovely male dog...
Brindy is a 9 year old brindle male.
He came to us from a home where he had been passed on from another owner to a lady with a small child.
Whilst Brindy is a loving dog, he should never in our opinion been re-homed to anyone with children as he does have a few issues.
He is quite a noisy boy for a greyhound but this is only for attention for his food and he does need to go straight out after eating as he has not been completely house trained.
It is our belief that he was probably kept as an outside dog before this lady took him on and she was not told the truth.
This did lead to a sad time for not only her but her little girl who had fallen in love with Brindy and also Brindy as he had to be brought into kennels.
We agreed to take him as a emergency case as RGT refused to take him as did the previous owner. Brindy IS an ex racer.
He has a fungal nail infection in all feet and this caused an infection in his leg which is now sorted. If this little girl had been around Brindy and touched him then he could have snapped at her, simly as he was in pain, not because he is nasty because he is not.
Brindy is on the sponsorship scheme for these reasons. We would consider re-homing him to one of our previous owners that knows and understands the more traumatised greyhound or someone who met our requirements and his needs. This would have to be someone very special who is at home full time with no other pets and is willing to take time with him and needs to have no joined on neighbours.
If we cannot find anywhere for Brindy then he will very happily spend his days here with us. We will look after this unique lad. He just needs a lot of attention and understanding.
Patch - Has Sadly Passed Away
Patch was rehomed but unfortunately is now back at the Rescue...
Please Sponsor Patch
This is Patch, she is a very lovable dog.
She was re-homed with a couple but unfortunately, whilst out on a walk, she was badly attacked by another dog. Patch was too traumatised to remain in a home and therefore has returned to the rescue where she will live out her life as a sponsor dog.
Please can you help by sponsoring Patch?
You can sponsor or just provide a one off donation. Any help is welcomed.
Thank you.
