Meet Opal has passed away

Opal is a 22 year old ex racer who has been at the rescue nearly all her adult life!

Opal is like a 3 year old puppy still to say she is such a great age!! However, she is becoming an older lady even if she doesn't realise it herself.

Opal has always been a fun loving girl and being a really small dog, has the ability to 'get where water can't'. To be fair to this beautiful lady, she is a dream to be around and is nothing but joy and love.

To imagine life without Opal - well, we just couldn't but then we consider her age? She is not yet the oldest greyhound Karen has had though. That was Wolfie who was 22. Opal is heading for a possible record!

She is kennel with her daughter Gem - who is also a very fun loving girl. They get in bed together and Opal loves to clean Gem! Afterall, Gem is her baby and only 9 years old!!!

If any dog in the kennels were to give us the 'runaround' and not want to come in and just want to play, come rain or shine, it will be Opal! She is a real little monkey.

If you would like to sponsor Opal then please email dawn@greyhoundrescue.org.uk or you can buy her certificate on our online shop very shortly.

Meet Linda - is now Re-homed xxx

Meet Linda - Yes our little Linda!

Linda is a 3 year old small but full of fun black female ex racing greyhound!

This little lady appears shy on first meeting people but once she knows you, she is adorable and loves to play and is full of fun.

She loves attention and although she has previously when in racing been kenneled with males, she can be quite bossy with then and so is better off on her own as she does seem to like all the attention to herself.

That said she is not in any way funny with other dogs, but is a 'foody', loves her treats too and would never like to share!!

She does think she is a puppy when she plays and loves to cuddle. She is also extremely 'quick of the mark'!

She can also be very calm and sleepy like most greyhounds!

Linda has in her racing career had an injury in her front leg and had pins in it whilst she was in racing. This was operated on some time ago and she is fully recovered. This does not bother her in any way from what we have seen of her but does make her extra special to us for being lucky enough to have survived a track injury such as this and making it to rescue!

If anyone is interested in adopting Linda - then of course get in touch on 07811 296029 or email dawn@greyhoundrescue.org.uk and I will of course ask Linda if she thinks you are good enough for her (ahaha), please if you email, give details of your address and phone number etc.

Are you 'Looking For Linda'? (It;s a song)!

Meet Jack

Jack is a beautiful black male greyhound who is just adorable.

He is not yet ready to make someone a loving pet and melt their hearts as we know this breed does in such a wonderful way, as he does have a few issues he need sorting first.

Jack is a worrier and insecure and is up and down with his weight. This is something we are working on with him especially with him being such a big tall lad.

He will get there and he is very soft. He just needs to be taught love and security and a lot of tlc as well as his special diet at the moment, which is why he is on sponsorship  for the time being.

Jack is a big lad and when he is ready for re-homing, he will suit a couple or family with older children due to his size.

He is a real stunner!

If you would like to sponsor Jack then please contact the rescue on 07811 296029 or email dawn@greyhoundrescue.org.uk

Jack is waiting!

Meet Kelly Kit Kat - Re-Homed

Kelly has been re-homed

Special appeal to re-home Kelly - this gorgeous girl is simply adorable!

A beautiful 2 year old white and blue female greyhound.

Kelly loves a cuddle, is very calm but does also like to play. She is a bit of a baby at times and loves attention and can be fussy with love.

She is a real sweetheart, medium sized girl who will make either a couple or family the ideal pet.

Kelly can be re-homed as a pair with a male or on her own. She has been kennelled here with 'Deacon' who has recently been re-homed and she would get on well with any female loving male!

Kelly needs her forever home and deserves it. She just loves everyone and everything. She will melt the hearts of anyone who meets her - you just cannot deny her a quick cuddle each time you pass!

Meet Little Miss Treacle! -Has been rehomed!

Here we have a very beautiful young saluki cross greyhound who we need to rehome urgently as she is really only a pup!

She should really be in kennels at her age! She was brought in to us starved and quite timid although she really is not a timid girl once she trusts you!!

She loves to play, really loves any food....adores people, children and bounces as soon as she sees you. She is totally adorable and a gorgeous colour too.

She does however need some training - house training will be required and so we do require either an older couple or a family where one person in home in the daytime?

She would suit an only pet household as even though she does like other dogs, she does get protective over food. Not with humans, just with other dogs!

That is mainly to do with her being starved and may come right once she feels secure.

We want to hear from people who understand the breed and know they cannot be let off the lead unless in a secure high fenced area and you need a secure back garden with no other pets (NO CATS).

She is simply adorable and you will fall in love with her.

If you do think you can give her a home the call Karen or Dawn on 07811 296029 or email dawn@greyhoundrescue.org.uk

Meet Mary

Mary has been rehomed x

Mary is a beautiful 3 year old black female greyhound - D.O.B 4th July 2014

She is a very loving little girl and very clean in her kennel.

Mary like to play, she love people and other dogs. She is affectionate and very cute! And, boy! Does she know it!

She enjoys her food though is not a greedy dog - loves her teddy and toys. Great on the lead.

Mary is looking for her forever home now she has retired from racing and would really like to relax into a family as soon as possible because she says she has such a lot of love to give it is wasted here in the kennels. She wants to spend her days making her forever family happy (she did say no offence to us) but she would really like a house with a sofa and TV because she is getting bored already with Magic FM and since LOBO is in control of the radio she gets no choice in that right now!

But she has heard that the TV is much more fun! Plus, she would like to go for walks with her new family and rides out to different places maybe?

So, if you think you could make Marys' dreams of the perfect life come true.... please email dawn@greyhoundrescue.org.uk or call 07811 296029 - you will not be disappointed - although we will as we will miss her!

Blanca - Has passed away

Blanca is an 14 year old female white & Black greyhound who has been at the rescue all is life and is kennelled with her brother Lobo.

Her & Lobo are on sponsorship as they have never been able to find homes due to their 'puppy like' ways.

They were born here when a bitch was brought in pregnant and her and some of her siblings were not the easiest and take after their mother who is also a cheeky little monkey!

Whilst Blanca and Lobo are a really playful pair and do love people they do not like to be away from the kennels. They are easily distressed if they even go for a walk with someone different!

As is their litter sister 'Solo'!!! It was not an easy decision to keep the in rescue but for them it was kindest one as they just will not cope with any other life. They are very well loved and treated as part of the family as are all the dogs here.

So they are all on the sponsorship scheme unless an angel comes along with a lot of time, patience and is at home 24/7!!! These are not typical of the greyhound breed at all!!!

If you want to sponsor Blanca then please do so in our online shop or call 07811 296029 - you will make her day! X

Max

Max is an 8 year old lurcher (corder collie cross greyhound) who has been with me since he was 18mth.

Max has been our fundraising dog and raised lots of money for his pals over the years and still goes out on occasions to 'do his bit' though he is not as young as he used to be and gets a little tired these days!!! Or lazy!!

His bestest friend is JoJo the parrot who does cry if Max goes out so this has also had an impact on Max's fundraising days!! Can you believe the parrot cries! Then when Max comes back JoJo sings, shouts him and jumps about throwing water everywhere!!

Max is a real soft boy and does a proper smile. We can honestly say we have never seen this dog in a bad mood.

The only thing we will say is that he is very noisy....screams for his dinner and if Karen is cooking! Strangely he doesn't bother when Dawn is cooking!!!

He is on the sponsorship scheme as he is now 'semi retired' from his fundraising days.

Willow

Willow is a 4 year old black female greyhound who is in with Max.

She is a lovely girl though a bit of a nutter at times which is why she is remaining at the rescue!!!

Willow needs extra special care as she is quite a nervous girl and needs to know that she's not 'going anywhere' constantly! She worries if she is in the garden and we go to the car & we have a lead in our hand, just in case she is going....she fears losing people!

This results in her behaviour change, where she gets very 'skittish' and needs comfort & reassurance.

She is happy here and we have taken her into the house as we know she is young and we were hoping she would one day be happy to be rehomed but it is looking like she is attached!!

We love her anyway, whatever her ways are....she is loving, funny and always hungry....a bit like Max, her companion! A good pair!!!

Ilona

Ilona is a 1 year old greyhound who came to us at 3 months, rescued by Madalina Crista & Anca who are Romanian rescuers who went out of there way to get these greyhounds to safety.

They were saved from the Romanian Gypsy Circus where they are made to do all sorts of things including like Drac & Helsin, dance and perform. But they are in no way treated with any kind of love and respect in return nor are they well looked after....Drac & Helsin had been caged up and had never even run before they came to us and still try to dance for us, even using chairs. How sad.

Ilona was lucky enough (even though she does not realise), to be brought over to safety before she was old enough to go through what they did...and poor Edgar who ended up being hanged but somehow escaped but has been left blinded and brain damaged by the physical trauma of it not to mention the psycological trama.

Ilona's 2 litter sisters were brought to us in March of this year at 10 months, they have suffered a little more abuse but have been lucky enough to have not been traumatised so far that they could not find the love of a new family and settle into a new home...they are doing well.

Bobby (Bobita) also came a month a after Ilona also at 3 months and he was found to be a lovely boy who luckily has not suffered trauma to remember either.

Ilona is to be trained as our 'Fundraising' greyhound since we lost 'Beau' to bone cancer earlier this year....

Ilona is a beautiful stunning girl and knows her own mind! She has adopted 'Patch as her mother and Patch thinks she is!! They do have a connection.

She is still very much a 'playful pup' but also very intelligent and picks things up quickly. She gives a paw, sits, and fetches her toys and drops them to play! - She does run 100mph straight into your legs though if you are not watching....and she aims!!! She has an agenda!

Gem - sadly recently passed away suddenly xx

Gem has sadly passed away.

Gem is an 11 year old black female greyhound who has a few health issues now and needs constant care going forward.

She also has a full metal foot where she had a freak accident and broke every bone and toe in her back left foot!

That aside she is one of the most fun loving greyhounds you could wish to meet! Often taking you for a ride around her kennel on her head if she gets chance...because she just adores people and interaction.

That said we did attempt to take her in the house at one point....great for us as we found out she love everyone and everything, including the other house dogs, the parrot and even the cats!! The bengal at the time became her best pal!!! but, she was craving something and each time we let her out or took her out she dragged us towards the kennels! All Gem wanted was to go back to her pals there? She became upset so we took her back in to trial it....and she picked up like her world had be rebuilt! She was so happy! So that is where she is! Our perfect house dog - wants to be a kennel dog!!!

Gem has too many health issues to be rehomed, but there is also the issue of her needing a 'kennel surroundings' so she is a forever kennel girl. x

Pandora has sadly passed away

Pandora is a beautiful 22 year old ex coursing greyhound from Ireland.

She is kennelled with Apollo and they are often found tucked up in bed together....in the same bed!

She is a blue brindle, a very beautiful girl though a very strong girl. If she was ever to be rehomed, it would have to be with Apollo and to someone extremely experienced in the breed and very sensible as these dogs have been hunters and are very alert.

She does like her own breed and larger dogs only due to her background.

She is wonderful with people and children and loved to play...We also have to give her a kiss before her food or she will not eat it!! She does appear a big softy but these 2 really do need to be respected simply because the are not your typical ex racing dogs.

This is why they are on sponsorship until the 'right' owner comes forward.

Meet Deacon - Re-homed!

Deacon Has been Reserved and is waiting to go to his forever home later this week 2/10/17

Deacon is a gorgeous black greyhound with so much love to give and full of fun.

He is 5 years old, very good on lead, loves his food, loves to play. He is very good with other dogs and likes his girls!

This boy is a sweetheart and we were going to use him for fundraising but after 'Gem lot her kennel mate Teddy' we decided to put Deacon in with her to cheer her up as she has become depressed. He certainly did this for her and got her back to the happy confident Gem we know!

He also did the same for Bonnie (who lost he kennel mate 'Harry') so Deacon we feel has done his bit to deserve a home, especially after he has also been a racer so we thought long and hard about it and we cannot be selfish and keep him kennelled - he needs the one to one love he deserves.

So if anyone can find it in their hearts to love him like we do then please call us on 07811 296029 or email dawn@greyhoundrescue.org.uk

Thank you
